two great highways across america were opened in 1926;

US route 50 and US route 66.

road trips across the country on these two great highways were a staple adventure for the next 30 years.

this summer the GVRAT runners will recreate two segments of these great road trips:

old US 50 from Cincinnati to St Louis

and old US Route 66 from St Louis to Rainbow Bridge in Riverton, Kansas.

while not every part of these grand old highways remain in use,

we have followed them as faithfully as possible

crossing the memorable old bridges across:

the great miami (ohio to indiana)

the wabash (indiana to illinois)

the misissippi (illinois to missouruh)

we will pass thru numerous small cities that were once thriving communities on these great routes

and see such unforgettable landmarks as;

the devil’s elbow and the rainbow bridge.

waypoints will arrive in your inbox at roughly 20 mile intervals

with numerous pictures taken during my IRL crossing in the summer of 2024

and an account of my experiences along the way.

dont let the summer of 2025 pass as just another year of the same old stuff.

use your training miles to take a great american road trip!
